Another double trip today saw Asim and his sons in the morning and Maurice with Rafiel and his grandmother in the afternoon. The morning group struggled to catch most of their fish as they were biting lightly. They all managed to land fish but unfortunately, they lost more than they caught.

Maurice and Rafiel had a similar time with the hot, flat water but did get into several more, big ones. Soft plastics accounted for all their fish as did the morning group. A combination of dropshot and casting techniques were used to entice the finicky fish into taking.

High heat and humidity will remain with us for the next several days and I will be out there in it all. Hopefully the fish will get a little more aggressive in these conditions, allowing everyone to catch plenty more big bass and walleye as well. Only time will tell!

After a well, deserved day off, I was back out with David and his son George today. They were eager to catch just about anything but the little guy was really hoping on catching a sturgeon. With the winds still blowing hard from the NE, I wasn’t sure if it could happen.

We made a long run to start the day in big waves and settled on a partially calm area to fish. I had hoped on catching a bunch of bass from here and wasn’t disappointed. David hooked up almost immediately and after a little coaching, so did George. He was use to the spin cast reels but was graduating to a spinning rod today. I showed him how to hold the rod properly and how to cast the reel and it didn’t take long before he was casting like a champ! George may have been only 7 but his casting skills were great. He was throwing soft plastics and managed to hook into a few on his own. He was also given the rod on several occasions, with fish on the end. Watching him fight these bass was amazing too. It looked like he had been fishing for many years!

I moved around the shallower water this morning and found fish everywhere we casted. George was content just catching anything that swam and brought to net pike and walleye as well. At one point, they both hooked up at the same time and managed to catch a double header. Of course, George’s bass was bigger! I’m not really sure how many fish they landed but the numbers were high.

The winds had subsided slightly by late morning and I decided to give sturgeon a try. We moved to where I knew we’d have a chance and David hooked into one quickly. H fought it with the aid of George, or was it the other way around! They finally brought it to net and officially had their first ever dinosaur! Several pics before the release and off it went.

We spent the rest of our afternoon on bass and many more were landed before we were done. David had a long drive back and they were both tired from all the action today. After one more bass, I headed back to the ramp to take out. Today went as planned, despite the NE winds and the fish really cooperated for David and his son George. The action was nonstop for the most part and the little guy really graduated. He went from using a spin cast outfit to a spinning rod & reel in a very short time. With his skills, it won’t be long before he’ll be teaching the teacher! Great times were had by all today!!

Neil spent the morning fishing with his two sons, Joe & Tom and struggled in the conditions we had. A big SW wind made for difficult drifts over fish that didn’t want to cooperate. Although a few were caught and others missed, the bite wasn’t great. I had to make a long move to get them into more fish. Our second stop saw a couple more fish landed with one of them being a big eye. Another longer run in rough water had them on a better bite and we remained here until it was time to leave. Everyone caught bass from this spot and we salvaged the morning. Definitely a tough bite today but in the end, it all worked out!!

Another day began cooler than expected, with air temps below 60 degrees, The wind was out of the NE for the second day in a row and boat control wasn’t easy! Leonard was with his son Victor and father-in-law for half a day and it was a challenge. Although I marked lots of fish, they didn’t really want to bite. It ended with them working hard for the fish they caught and top honors went to Victor with the biggest bass, in the last minutes of their trip!

An afternoon group of 4 in for a bachelor party, definitely fended better than the morning trio. The winds died down and temps rose with the sun, warming everything up nicely. Plenty of bass were caught by everyone. Soft plastics were used to entice each and every fish that came aboard. Oh yeah, they missed many others too!

Today’s double may have been tiring but in the end, it all worked out. Everyone had a great time and boated fish and that’s all that counts! I’m back out again tomorrow for hopefully another successful day with plenty more fish being caught!!

This was to be the last day of a 4-day trip for Doc & his grand kids and I hoped to make it another great one. We were missing Caluum however, but we would make it work. Temps had dropped overnight and this morning we were faced with a cold NE wind. So much so that after the first hour of fishing, I had to head back to the truck to get more clothes for Jack and Charlie. Shorts and a T shirt just weren’t cutting it today!

Probably the toughest part of the morning had to be the boat control. An angled wind crossing the current flow made it tough to get any sort of drift. They still managed to boat several walleye and bass, but we eventually gave up on this area. I tried trolling another place but realized quickly that this too wasn’t working and moved on.

After trying a couple of other dropshot areas with similar results, I opted for a long run to see if I could possibly get a trolling bite going. The grand kids were finally starting to warm up now, with the sun and extra clothes they were wearing and it looked doable. One pike and 1 walleye later, we were back to fishing with rod in hand again!

The rest of the afternoon consisted of casting and some trolling of soft plastics. It was quite productive as everyone was getting into big bass. These fish were scattered and by covering water they were able to get the better ones. We even ended the day with a simultaneous rotation of big bass and everyone ended their day with a bang!

These last 4 days were definitely challenging, getting everyone into fish, but in the end it all worked out. They were even able to bring home another limit of eater sized walleye today, for possibly another taco meal. All the big bass caught this week were just an added bonus! Overall I think everyone fended quite well, with plenty of memories made in the 4 days of fishing and great times were had by all!!
