Rough & Tough DayAugust 20, 2004
I fished with Nathan on Lake St-Francis today. The wind began light, but by mid day became just nasty. The air temps were barely 70 and the water temps were even lower. Morning sunshine soon gave way to plenty of clouds for the rest of the day. The waves built up to 3 footers by the afternoon making the soft plastic baits impossible to detect a strike. We had to go to faster moving baits like Spinner Baits to get reaction strikes out of the negative fish until the afternoon major arrived. Short striking fish were all we encountered in the morning and it was a treat to finally have some action in the afternoon. About a dozen smallmouth were caught up to almost five pounds by the time it was all over. Tough Bite!!!!
The Silver BulletAugust 17, 2004
I had a few days open, so I decided to head to Lake Ontario with Rick for some Salmon action. The weather really held out as we had most of our time on the water in little to no wind. The waves & weather started to act up on the last morning, but we were heading home anyway. Probably about 12 Salmon and a few Lakers were caught with many other Salmon getting off or just breaking us off. We fished for a total of about 17 hours during the time there & had a blast fighting these big bruisers up to 26 pounds. Now that is how to spend your days off!!!
A Proud FatherAugust 16, 2004
I fished with Alex & his two daughters, Erin & Kalie this afternoon on Lake St-Francis. The air temps were upper 70s and the water temps were around 71 degrees. Soft plastics were used to catch the 12 to 15 bass that were landed today. Erin was a whiz at the netting, so I let her have fun netting both her sister’s & father’s bass after I saw what she could do. Theres just something special about seeing children this age catching the biggest fish of their lives! Kalie, age five, landed the biggest bass today at a whopping 4.5 pounds. Both her sister & father had fish of almost equal size as well, but Big Bass honors had to go to the littlest girl. All in all, a great way to spend the afternoon, right down to the last cast when Alex landed another 3.5 pounder!
A Bass Tourny DayAugust 15, 2004
I fished a Bass Tournament with Benji today on Lake Champlain. The weather was a rather hot, humid kinda day! No wind made it feel even hotter. Air temps were in the 80s and the water temps were in the mid 70s & green. The algae bloom had Mississquoi Bay looking like someone had spilled a real big can of green paint! Both largemouth & smallmouth were caught in shallow water throughout hte day. All in all, about 25 or so fish were landed and plenty others lost. At the end of the day, a five fish total of 16.5 pounds was weighed in & a 9th place finish was what we ended up with. All in all, a pretty decent day!
