I fished with Bobby & Francois today on a local lake nearby. The weather was a mix of sun & clouds and the temperatures went up into the mid 70’s by the end of the day. Winds were from the S/SW at about 5 MPH and the water temps went to 60 degrees in some areas of the lake. We missed several lake trout and managed to land about a dozen smallmouth ranging from 3.5 to over 5 pounds. The largest went five & a half even! Most of the fish are so near the spawn that they refused to take most offerings. Overall, we must have seen more than a hundred bass just cruising the drop offs. All things considered, a great day for viewing, but a little slow on catching!

I fished with Dave & Jeff again today, but on another lake for trophy smallmouth bass. The day started with a light drizzle and got worse later. Air temps were in the mid to upper 60’s by the days end and the water temps were close to 60 degrees. There was little to no wind and the sun actually came out in the afternoon. We started out the day with a 5.3-pound smallie and managed to get two more the same size a little later. We also caught several in the 4 pound range and a few over three pounds too. There were also a couple of lakers around 4 pounds caught and a few other missed fish including a brown trout of about 7 or 8 pounds. All things considered, it was a great day on the water with plenty of quality fish.

I fished with Dave & Jeff today on Lake Memphremagog for smallmouth bass. The air temps went to 60 degrees by days end and mostly sunny skies were what we had. When we took off the water, storms were all around us. Electrical skies were lighting up from every direction as we drove back to the motel. Over 50 smallies were caught & released, mostly on jerk-baits. Water temps were up to 60 degrees in some places on the lake and the winds were non-existent. All in all, a great day!

I fished with Max & Scott again today on another lake for huge smallmouth bass. Scott caught one over four pounds on a fly on the first cast. “It’s bad luck to do that,” I said, as we were about to find out. Other than a salmon and one smallmouth bass, that was all we caught. We did however, see over 100 enormous bass cruising in the 2 to 8 foot range, staging before the spawn. None of the bass were ready to nest yet and they weren’t feeding either. Only the bass in deeper water were actually taking our offerings and even they were turned off. Water temps reached as much as 55 degrees in certain areas of the lake. The air temps were in the mid 60’s and winds were light & variable. We had a mix of sun & cloud throughout the day. Tough bite!!

I fished with Scott & Max today on Memphremagog. The day started off damp and miserable as usual, but soon changed to sunny skies and warmer air. There was no wind and it actually warmed up to over 60 degrees by the end of the day. The water temps went as high as 60 degrees in some areas of the lake and the bass were beginning to move shallower. Scott & Max were both fly-fishing and we managed to get into about 40 to 50 fish throughout the day. Both fishermen bettered their personal best for smallmouth bass today!
