Big Bass BitesJune 9, 2005
Alone once more, but great fishing today. I started on one lake and jumped to another after noon. The weather was beautiful and sunny with little to no wind again. Both bodies of water produced great fish with the average being about 4 pounds. Plenty of 3 to 5 pound smallmouth bass were caught & released once more. I had never fished the second lake before today, but found fish in the first minute of fishing. By looking at a contour map of the lake and figuring out where I wanted to be, the rest was easy. Probably 40 bass were caught on this lake and another 30 or so on the first lake, for a total of almost 75 bass once again. Another great day on the water!
Mega BassJune 8, 2005
Once again, I was alone on the water today. I decided to try a little different fishing on Memphremagog due to the high humidity & flat calm conditions. The air temps went into the 80’s and in some areas of the lake, the water temps were above 70 degrees. Top-water was definitely working, but on the smaller fish. Zara spooks were catching al kinds of 1 to 3 pound males all over the lake. Even some of the offshore areas were bringing up smallmouth from deep water. Close to 75 fish were taken, but only a few were above 3 pounds. Lots of fun today, but nothing really big!
Productive New WaterJune 7, 2005
I took the day off yesterday but was back on the water this morning. I fished alone and scouted out some new water on another lake .Air temps were in the 80’s and water temps were upper 60’s by the day’s end. The winds were howling from the S/SW at 15 to 20 MPH with gusts upwards of 30. Memphemagog would have been a rough one today! Plenty of large smallmouth in the 3 to 5 pound range were caught & released once more on the usual baits. Fin-S rigged jigs in the 1/8 ounce size were the most productive. Depths of 8 to 12 feet of water were the zones that I concentrated on, as the deeper fish were not very cooperative. Some of the males are starting to protect the nests, but the females haven’t spawned quite yet. Close to 50 bass were caught today!
Another Average DayJune 5, 2005
Once again, Christiane & I fished Memphremagog for smallmouth bass. We had identical conditions as yesterday & the air felt more like July rather than June. It was a scorcher! Over 100 bass were caught on a variety of lures. The top water bite was excellent in most places as we caught smaller males all over the lake. Some spawned out females were also taken in the 5 to 10 foot areas adjacent to the spawning flats on tiny perch grubs & 1/8 oz. Jigs. In some areas of the lake, the bass have already spawned while other areas haven’t even begun. If the weather holds out, there will be action until the end of the month!
Top Water FiestaJune 4, 2005
I fished with my wife, Christiane today due to the day off. We had a blast on Memphremagog with plenty of smallmouth bass & perch. The top water bite was great once more & the perch bit well on tiny grubs. The weather was a beautiful sunny day with no wind. Air temps reached into the 80’s and the water went into the low 70’ in some places. Plenty of boats out now that the weather is getting nice! Probably close to 100 fish were caught today. A great day by anyone’s standards!
