After several days of cancellations due to weather, I was back out again today. Radu & Dragor were with me, looking for sturgeon and walleye. Although a strange combination, I knew I could make it work!

We hit the sturgeon first and only caught one small fish in the first couple of spots, but the third one was a surprise. Here we managed to get two big channel cats and a two huge drum. One of them was almost 15 pounds! Great fights by all of them too! Once it died, I relocated once again, to a distant area for bass.

I switched up the techniques to dropshotting and they managed to catch several smallies before I moved again. I wanted to get them some walleye and it took quite a while. We were definitely on fish, but the lack of wind and bright sunshine had them shut down. They literally had to force feed the fish worms. Thankfully we had brought them for the sturgeon! In the end, they managed to get into a bunch of bass and walleye before we were done. At least they were able to take their limit of eyes home with them.

Today was a mixed bag kind of day with sturgeon, channel cats, drum, bass, walleye and perch landed. Talk about one heck of a variety of fish! Overall, a great day of fishing!!

Rabih & his son wanted to try fishing for their first time and joined me for a half day trip, this afternoon. I wasted no time and headed directly to the deep-water area that had been producing lately and set them up to fish. The weather was spectacular, with bright sunshine, warm temps and almost no wind. Totally different from what I had seen lately! After a brief orientation on the operation of the rod and reel, they were ready to go. It didn’t take long for his son to hook up but unfortunately it came off while reeling the bass in. Soon after, he was into another one and this time able to land the bass. This was his first fish ever and hopefully not his last!

We spent a while, making drifts over the deep shoal and both of them landed several more fish. They even had a double header that made for a great pic!

Things had slowed a bit and I decided to try their hand at casting the shallows with soft plastics and made a move. Although the fishing wasn’t great, they were able to learn quickly how to cast and managed to hook into a few more bass. One of them was a real good one and his son received another pic of his catch.

Time went by quickly with a half day trip and it wasn’t long before we were done. Their first experience was a success, with several quality bass being landed. I’m not sure if they will continue to pursue this again, but they definitely have the basics under their belt now. Great day, with great times fishing today!!

Jasmine and Maxime were my guests today and looking to catch some walleye. We began drifting an open water area and managed to get into some good ones, along with plenty of perch. Jasmine caught a couple that barely made the high end of the legal slot and the others were also good ones too. Plenty of perch hit the same baits and some of the larger ones joined their cousins in the well. The conditions made for nice drifts with a good chop from the right direction, for a change!

I eventually decided to move away from the walleye & perch area and hit the deep, open water spot that had been producing big bass lately. Both Jasmine and Maxime had several bites and a few fish hooked, but it wasn’t fishing like the last several times out. Maxime did manage to land a nice one and unfortunately it was the only one!

We made a few more moves to other shallower areas and only saw smaller fish. In the short remaining time, I headed back to the place we had started in and finished the day with a handful more perch. Time had run out and we were done!

This day was filled with plenty of action and they were taking fish home too. Definitely a win in my books! Both Jasmine and Maxime had caught some good fish today and accomplished what they had wanted to do, with some walleye for a meal. Bon appetite!!

Another double trip day saw Sam and his wife in the morning and Mark and his son in the afternoon. The morning started a bit slow but soon picked up when I went deep. Plenty of bass were caught for the balance of their morning and some really good ones too. Dropshotting was the technique and they caught on quickly. Although they missed fish, they also caught many.

Mark and his son joined me for the second trip, but conditions were much tougher. This morning, we had a light wind from the NE, building towards the end. Once I transferred guests, it started to blow and kept increasing. By the time we began fishing, we were in 3 footers, against the current flow. Not easy when you’re trying to drift while dropshotting! I was forced to pull the boat down current with the electric motor, just to present the baits correctly. Once I got everything in order, they began catching fish. We made multiple long drift passes and had fish, on each one. We endured the waves for hours and they each battled many big fish before we were done. Despite the difficult conditions this afternoon, both trips did equally well with a technique they had never done before. The run back was probably the toughest part of today, with big rollers all the way. I also had an obstacle course of sailboats to contend with, as I think there was a race going on. It seemed like they were using half the lake as their course! All in all, the day worked out quite well. Everyone caught plenty of fish and had a great time fishing today!!

Another excellent day of bass fishing with Denny, Jordan and his sons, River & Bodhi. They dropshotted the entire day and pounded the smallies for most of it. We were blessed with calm waters almost the entire time making boat control definitely easier than previous outings! Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a more relaxing day with two young kids in the boat. At one point, River was hooking up every time he dropped down. Too bad they didn’t all stay pinned! I believe in the end it was his grandfather Denny, that managed to boat the most fish for the day. Everyone had their fair share of fish landed though, with many other hits or losses as well. I just hope that this fishing continues right into the fall period as I will be targeting them almost every day. More, great fishing ahead!!
