A Cold Sturgeon Bite

A frosty morning greeted Kodiac and his girlfriend Sarah this morning. She also had her father Gilles and the three of them were hoping to catch some sturgeon. It was definitely going to be a challenge as we headed out looking for these beasts!

I checked several areas with limited marks before finally getting the lines wet. Sarah was given the first rod and she boated her very first sturgeon. Although still a juvenile, it was nice to see. We hit another area after some time and managed to get several more with everyone catching them. We even managed a double as Sarah and her dad landed a small one at the same time.

After a couple more moves, Kodiac finally got a bigger sturgeon and I hoped this wouldn’t be the last. Unfortunately, all we could manage afterwards were bass, walleye and one hateful eel.

Today was successful in the sense that we managed to catch the fish we were after, but I would have liked them to be a bit bigger. Despite their size however, everyone was happy to have caught their very first, rubber lipped sturgeon. Every other fish was just a bonus. Except for the eel of course!!
