The Bass Struggle
July 13, 2026
I had a client, all the way from Japan today! Koji was here and looking for a few new species to catch. We began with trolling and managed to get into 3 different types of fish while doing so. Walleye was the first, followed by a muskie and then pike. It wasn’t easy in the flat calm conditions as there were floating weeds all over the waters we fished.
A little later in the day, I switched over to sturgeon and he managed to land one small one before jumping over to bass. Unfortunately, these fish eluded him by coming off. He casted for pike for a while without any luck and we decided to return to the troll. The flat calm and scorching sun, was not making it easy. I needed to go deeper.
In the last hour of trolling, he managed to land one over walleye and another fish came off after taking a lot of line. Who knows, possibly another muskie!
Koji ended his trip with 4 new species of fish that should have ben 5. I still can’t believe that bass was his nemesis! In the end, he had a great time trying new techniques for several fish he doesn’t have back home. I would call this a success!!
