Drew & his sons Drew junior and Fin were with me today and hoping to get some firsts. They had never caught sturgeon, bass or walleye before and I wanted to make it happen. Hopefully the fish would cooperate and they would all slam!

I made a long run to a sturgeon spot right away and found some fish on the bottom to anchor up on. It wasn’t long before we received the first bite and Fin was locked up. It may not have been big, but it was the right species and we were officially on the board! The others soon got their turn as well and before we knew it, everyone was landing sturgeon. In fact, many of them were caught in the few hours we remained, making for a great morning of fishing.

I decided to switch areas and species, with bass being next on the list to catch. I headed over to a shallower rocky flat and set them up with dropshot rigs. Drew senior didn’t waste any time before bending a rod with his first ever smallie. Both his sons soon followed and soon everyone was on the board with bass. Several more smallies came aboard afterwards and a few really good ones were landed by Drew and Fin. I think Fin may have caught one of the largest bass so far this season, with his catch! The fish cooperated for a couple of hours in this area and I remained until it stopped. I had wanted to try another spot nearby, but soon found out that a boat was occupying it and moved on. We were going to try for the third and final species of the day!

I ran to an open water area that I was sure would produce, to finish up the day. The winds were perfect for a drift and it didn’t take long before Fin was hooked up. He was into a good walleye and was about to have another species. Several pics were taken once again before releasing his high-end keeper. He soon followed up with another slightly smaller one and managed to land it as well. Multiple drifts were made over the area and Drew also managed to hook into a good fish as well. He fought it for a bit and handed over the rod to his son Drew to feel the fight. As it turned out, this was to be the last fish of the day, but a good way to end their trip.

This family outing was a great one, both for weather as well as fishing. They got to land three species that they had never caught before and technically all slammed in the process. I know that today won’t soon be forgotten by anyone! It was definitely a banner day, filled with plenty of action throughout. Great times were had by everyone on this beautiful fall day!!

Luca & his buddy Alex were with me today, hoping to catch a big fish. I knew that the possibilities would be good for them as it was fall and big fish season. We were going to start with sturgeon and hopefully they would get their wish!

I spent plenty of time checking different areas out before finally locating one place that looked good. It was here that they both got their wish! Alex managed to land his personal best big fish, with a good-sized sturgeon. Luca also caught a couple much smaller, but managed to land a big catfish, that definitely surpassed anything he had ever seen. After boating the big fish, they wanted to try for bass and we switched locations to give it a try.

As with this morning, I had to make a couple of moves before getting on the fish. Alex did however manage to catch a pike on his third cast. Oddly enough, that was the only fish for this spot! I shifted presentations in another area and they began catching several bass on dropshot rigs. These fish definitely wanted something smaller and much slower. We remained here for a while until the bite slowed and eventually moved on.

The remainder of the day saw a few more fish landed, but mostly small in size. The time definitely went by fast and before we knew it, it was time to go. They had both caught more fish today than they had in the last month combined making this a very successful trip for them. Although I would have liked more action, the fish were a little slower than expected, with the full moon. I always find it tougher during this period and today was no different. Overall, it was still a great day for fishing!

After cancelling several days recently, due big winds and crap weather, I was finally back out today! Chas & his wife were with me after I had to cancel them yesterday, as well. The clients I had for today requested a reschedule due to one of them having the flu. In the end, it all worked out for Chas!

Cold morning temps greeted us this morning, but at least the winds were low and the lake didn’t look like an ocean. Although they were from the NE, they were blowing low and the waves were tiny. I only hoped the conditions hadn’t changed too much!

Our first area may have looked good, but the fish didn’t want to bite. I decided to pull the plug quickly and opted for another spot, further away. This one was in a little deeper water and several fish were landed, casting a dropshot. Unfortunately, it wasn’t what I had expected either and another move was made.

I had been seeing plenty of bass from this next location and after refining it a bit more, the fish began to bite. Dropshot rigs were used and we remained here for several hours, just pounding on the fish! They may not have been all big, but they fought like they were!

The next few places we tried, all fell short on the catching. It wasn’t until I hit another big flat offshore that things turned around. I had Chas tossing blades and he was absolutely annihilated! There’s no better feeling than getting hammered by a bass on a spinnerbait! He stuck with it for a while and managed to land over a half dozen. Several other fish were also missed as well, telling me that we were finally on the fall numbers I had wanted to see.

I had no intension of staying here for as long as we did, but the fish were biting. Whenever it slowed down, I changed up techniques and he landed many more fish. From blades to hard & soft baits, to finally dropshots, all worked well. In the end, the last cast yielded another big fish and we left them biting! Who knows how many bass were actually here? All I know is that they took a pounding before we were done. Chas landed an incredible number of them and his wife even took part in the beating at times as well.

What looked like another cancellation day turned into a phenomenal one for us today! Plenty of action on all levels. Multiple bait changes allowed us to monopolize on the high number of fish we were on today. They both left with a sense of satisfaction and Chas may have even gotten the bass thumb that we all strive for. Either way, it was an extraordinary bass catching day!!

Day 2 with Jim & Marie saw us taking a road trip to a different puddle. The winds were expected to blow harder and I needed an area that we could actually fish. Hopefully they would have as good a day as they had yesterday!

Our first spot this morning saw Marie hooked up, on her very first cast! Although the fish came unpinned, it was a good sign of things to come. Not long after, she was locked up again and this time the fish made it to the net. It was a big smallie and definitely picture worthy! Jim was tossing a different presentation, but not for long. Marie nailed a few more fish and I soon switched both to the same baits. We remained here fa little longer until the bite stopped and then made our first move.

Our second and third areas were slower than expected but the fourth one was much better. I had positioned the boat in such a way that they were both into fish, continuously. We remained here for quite some time and slight adjustments with the baits kept the action going. Marie was on fire as usual, hooking one fish after the other. Although Jim caught several, he was no match for his wife. At one point she went at least 6 casts in a row with her rod bent! Unfortunately, all things must come to an end and that it did. We were forced to move again but not before several more bass were landed.

The next stop was equally as good and a high number of fish were landed once again. Both of them were into plenty of action, now that they were using the same presentations. As with the previous stop, this place also slowed down and we were forced to relocate again.

There was limited time remaining in the day now and I hit a few more areas before we were done. Almost every spot we hit today had fish but not the size or numbers I had expected. The water temps were still at 63 degrees and I think the best is yet to come. In the next couple of weeks, it should be on fire and I will be there to take advantage of the bite. Today with Jim and Marie was the first time I had been here this season and it was a good indication of what was going on. They definitely were content catching the numbers of bass they caught today. They also lost plenty! A great two days of fishing for Jim & Marie, the longest lasting clients I have!!

Jim & Marie were back with me again this year and we targeting their favorite species, bass. We would be fishing as many areas as we could and hopefully find the mother-load!

The first spot only produced a few smaller bass on a dropshot, but they were on the board. The second and third spot came up shy of anything and I was on the move, quickly. The third spot however, was where Jim managed to put several decent bass in the boat and Marie landed her best of the day.

Things were a little slow so far, but our next stop lasted a few hours, as it was loaded. Both Jim & Marie caught plenty of fish of all sizes from here. Jim managed to land the biggest bass of the day, along with a good-sized sturgeon. It had eaten a dropshot by fishing slowly and was definitely hooked in the mouth. First time ever!

After having spent several hours in this one area, I finally moved when it became slow. I made a long move to see what the skies had in store for us and ran through some showers getting there. It wasn’t much but enough to don the rain gear!

This was our last stop of the day and Marie made it all worthwhile by landing a couple of decent walleye. The lake went flat calm after the rain had passed and the bite went dead. It was time to pull the plug and head in.

It was nice to have my longest standing clients back again this year. They had been fishing with me for over 20 years and seen plenty of fish on their trips. Today was another one of those and a great one again. They will be back with me tomorrow and hopefully we will have another memorable day of fishing to add to the others from the past. May even have to take a road trip to another puddle to get it done. Bigger bass ahead!!
