Bill contacted me several days back with a request to learn how to fly fish. I told him that we could mix it up with learning and switch over to conventional gear afterwards. All he needed to master, was how to control the line while casting and I knew this shouldn’t take too long.

After about 45 minutes of practice, we were packing it up and switching over to the troll. Both he and his friend Larry would be spending the rest of the day catching fish.

We were quite fortunate at the start of the day to have flat calm conditions, but once we began to troll the winds picked up. They were blowing out of the N/E and creating 1 to 2 footers on the water. This wasn’t the direction I wanted, but at least it was better than the last 4 days of flat calm!

I covered lots of water and depths and they managed plenty of fish, including another small toothy critter once again. Several decent walleye were in the mix with the pike and a couple of them ended up in the box, for them to take home.

Most of the day was spent trolling, but we did take some time to cast lures for a while too. Unfortunately, only 1 walleye was landed, but it was a big one!

After moving to another location near the end of the day, we soon called it quits. Bill’s back was feeling the waves and all the time standing in the boat. Time to pull the plug!

Today was a good one filled with all kinds of different things, including a crash course in fly casting. It was mostly a trolling one, but I think they’ll be back later in the season when they can fish a different technique. Dropshotting for a variety of species will come into play once the bass season opens in another week and they’ll be in their glory with rod in hand. Hope to see them back soon!
