The Day After The Storm
November 3, 2019
Tino was back out with me again today and looking for something big. He was definitely about to get his wish as we were heading to the land of the giants!
When we arrived I was a bit nervous of the water color from the torrential rains and yesterday’s wind. Instead of being crystal clear, it was like mud. This would surely have an effect on the bite! Along with the conditions, we also had plenty of company as it was the weekend and there were lots of boats all around. It definitely wasn’t like the last time out!
The fishing was slow and we really had to keep the presentations in the right areas for a long time in order to get bit. Some decent bass were landed but I wasn’t satisfied with the numbers or even the size. I made a move to another area late in the morning and it was here that Tino hooked into something large! In fact after a couple of minutes of drag screaming from the reel, I actually had to go after his fish. I knew it wasn’t a bass and figured that it was likely a musky. Eventually after about 5 minutes of fighting it on light tackle, I was able to get the head into the net and boga around the jaw. It was a great fish for 10 pound line and several pics were taken before releasing it back to the water.
We spent the remainder of the day jumping around looking for more fish and managed one really good smallie late in the afternoon. It was hard to fish the areas I wanted with boats seeming like they were in another tournament! Everyone was livewelling their fish too, making me think that there was another event going on.
We fished right up until 3:00 and headed back to the ramp soon after. This was definitely a tough day for fish but the ones we caught, were good ones. I know that once the water cleans up, everything will return back to normal and plenty more fish will be landed. Hopefully a couple of days will take care of it as I will be back soon. Better days ahead!
