Another Family Day

Darren and his 3 kids joined me this morning, for their annual family day outing. Ethan, Jordan and Lilly Belle had a blast catching all kinds of pike & walleye. Top pike went to Lilly and the biggest eye went to Jordan as they continued their rotation. Although not insane action, they were still able to catch plenty of fish in the time they were out.

After returning the 3 kids to the dock, shortly after noon, Darren & I headed back out for more action. We began checking several new areas with a dropshot rig but soon returned to trolling. These fish were spread out and I needed to cover water in order to get the bites.

The afternoon proved to be like the morning with plenty more pike & walleye being landed. Some of the walleye were even taken home by both of us in the end. Great day with plenty of laughs!

Two New Species

Brian and his two sons were with me this afternoon hoping to get their first pike & walleye. They were from Nebraska and had never caught either of these fish before! Despite the cold front conditions, I did manage to get them on both species. Everyone landed their targeted species before we were done!

One Person Double

Zac was flying solo today and had to drive 90 minutes just to get to the boat ramp. He was visiting his girlfriend, but not in Montreal. It didn’t matter though as he was a fisherman!

We headed out shortly after 7:00 and I was surprised to see a good chop on the water. Winds were out of the west and probably blowing 5 to 10 knots. Just enough to keep those pesky midge away and hopefully create some action.

Our first stop wasn’t productive and I pulled the lines within 30 minutes, heading elsewhere. We made a short move and managed to get bit by a few pike and one over walleye. At least it was nice to finally have some action! I covered plenty of water and worked hard for the bites we had but the fish weren’t really very active. It was time for another move!

After running to the other side of the lake, I was faced with no wind once again and plagued with those damn dog pecker knats. It was now totally flat calm and beginning to get quite warm too. I managed to fire the reels several times by covering water and Zac continued to enjoy catching pike. In one area he even managed to get his own double header when a second fish hit, while the first was being landed. It made for a great pic!

With time not on our side, I thought I’d try a deeper area nearby in hopes of a few walleye. Zac was only with me for the morning and wanting to take at least one back with him to eat. As luck would have it, he landed two keepers and lost another one that was definitely an over. Along with the eyes, there were a few pike once again as well. We ended the morning with one last fish before we were done.

Zac enjoyed his time on the water and drove for nearly as long as he fished. Definitely a sign of a true fisherman! Hopefully we’ll cross paths again this year and he’ll take advantage of the late season bite for a variety of species, including sturgeon. Either way, today was a trip well worth the long drive!!

Initiation Day

Shamlan and his gang had a great morning of fishing today, catching all kinds of big fish. Although the kids reeled most of them in, the parents had a chance as well. The kids however, captured 99% of the pike while their fathers filmed the entire battles! What a great way to initiate the younger generation!

Double Boat Day

Ben was in Montreal for a bachelor party and spent the afternoon fishing with the other five guys. I required a second boat, so I requested the help from Mike, another local guide. Between the two of us, we were able to accommodate the large group for their fishing experience.

I had Ben, Zac & Chad out with me and despite the slower than usual fishing, they were able to land plenty of fish in the short time out. Mostly pike were caught, but there was also a half dozen or so good walleye landed as well. They were even able to take several of them back with them for a great meal! This was said to have been the highlight of their trip!!
