Coldest Morning Yet
October 17, 2025
Andre and his friend Gerard joined me today on the coldest morning this fall, so far! Add to that the big NW winds and this made it even chillier. We made an attempt at locating some sturgeon to start, but soon changed it up to bass instead. After 3 locations proved to be bleak at best, I opted for smallies.
They had a blast catching loads of these brownies throughout the day and the temps warmed up nicely. By afternoon we had shed several layers and the bite was on fire. Plenty of good average fish were caught with some really nice ones in the mix too. So much so that the time just flew by and before we knew it, it was time to leave. I made one last stop close to the takeout for walleye but they were unsuccessful at getting bit. By 3:00, we were done!
Today was a typical fall trip with tough fishing at the start and better fishing in the afternoon. The cold morning gave way to warmer temps eventually and the bass became more active by afternoon. The NW winds didn’t help either as they were blowing big when we began, making it much tougher for boat control as well. Overall, they managed to work through it and were rewarded with great fishing in the end. A tough but excellent outing once again!!
